I offer free consultations to help you understand your options and how I can support your success.

Scheduling Your Consultation
Getting started is easy!
- Fill out and submit the form on this page
- Email me directly at contact@gamestudiolaw.com; or
- If you know one of my current clients, you could ask them for an introduction
What to Expect
- I’ll reach out via email to arrange a time that works best for you
- We can connect via phone, Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams – whatever is most convenient
- Our consultation will typically last up to one hour
- I encourage you to ask as many questions as you have
- I want to understand your specific needs and challenges so I can offer the most relevant advice
Background Information
To make the most of our time together, providing some background information beforehand will allow me to tailor the conversation to your specific situation and offer more targeted guidance.
When filling out the form or emailing me, please feel free to include:
- A brief overview of your immediate legal needs (e.g., incorporation, studio structuring, contract review, freelance contracting, funding, etc.).
- A short description of your studio, team and game(s) – I’m always excited to learn about new projects
- Links to relevant studio, game and founder websites and social media accounts
- The province or state you are located in
- Dates and times you are available
- Who will be participating. I’m happy to speak with the entire founding team if you wish

Ready to Move Forward?
Great! Here’s what the next steps look like if we both feel we’re a good fit after our consultation
- Confirming your identity: I’ll need a copy of a government-issued photo ID (driver’s license, passport, etc. – just not a health card) to verify your identity. This is required by the Law Society of Ontario.
- If your studio is incorporated (or about to be): I’ll also need a copy of your certificate of incorporation.
- Formalizing our agreement: I’ll prepare a simple engagement agreement outlining our working relationship and the scope of my services. This will need to be signed before I can officially start working for you.
A Quick Note About Representation:
- Sole Proprietors: If you’re a sole proprietor, you will be my client.
- Incorporated Studios: If your studio is incorporated, the corporation will be my client, not the individual founders, shareholders, officers or directors.
- Multiple Founders: If you have multiple founders, everyone will need to sign the engagement agreement to designate who is authorized to give me direction on behalf of the corporation.
Once the engagement agreement is signed, we’re good to go! I can then begin providing legal services.
Where I Can Help:
I am licensed to practice law in Ontario and California. This means I can generally assist clients who are:
- Located in Ontario or California;
- Incorporated/incorporating in Ontario or California, or
- Doing business with people or companies in those jurisdictions.
In some cases I can offer a limited set of services in other Canadian and U.S. jurisdictions. Ask me for details if you think this might apply to you.
Important – Please Read:
- What we discuss during the consultation isn’t formal legal advice.
- While I’ll absolutely keep everything you share confidential, it’s not protected by solicitor/attorney-client privilege until we have a signed engagement agreement. As a result, a court or tribunal could compel me to disclose any information you share with me prior to your becoming my client.
